New Clear Vision is a hopeful song for the future disguised as an angry ode to the present and past. “We’ve got a new clear vision of the people we are killing from the color television of the blood we are spilling”. This lyric launches the listener into a ludicrous world that only knows how to lurch from hot wars to cold wars and back again.

Our world is tribal, made up of small groups perpetually at odds with each other. Whether through ignorance or arrogance, we collectively developed the power to destroy humanity, then put it into the hands of a few power hungry people. “We all stand waiting for a new clear vision”. That vision is not coming from society’s leaders, politicians, or philosophers.

I don’t think we can talk or sing our way out of the nuclear predicament. People with the best intentions become inversions of themselves when confronted by unrequited anger. Fueled by mass delusions of an afterlife, whole populations are able to disregard the stunning glory of actual life. A new clear vision might include the realization consciousness is a state we’ve already ascended to. It’s here and now.
